Dear Carl, Tonight at dinner, Kellan asked if it was still his daddy’s birthday. I said, “no…that was yesterday.” He then asked if we could still celebrate your birthday anyway…so we did. We love you, Carl, and we remember you every day. I am a bit overwhelmed right now, but your boys are doing great! They are happy and growing into amazing kids. I am beginning to be able to see the larger picture…them as teens and young men. We have a way to go, but I am so proud of them and I know that you are too. We can’t tell you how much you are missed, but I know you hear the commotion (and the often exasperated momma telling these kids what their daddy would not put up with!!). Yesterday was your birthday, but I could not bring myself to post. It is always too real and still too raw. These kids miss you and need you, yet you cannot be here to teach and guide them.
