Happy Birthday Granny!!

Here are some photos that we've taken over the last couple weeks...

First, let me say that we are wishing Granny Barry a VERY happy birthday!  And...we also wish the rest of you a Happy St. Paddy's Day!!
For a Momma/Mum with 2 very Irish boys, I've done a terrible job this year. We did manage a dinner of fish sticks and spinach (hey, it's green!!). Other than that, we thought of Granny Barry and hoped that she has a very special day!!

Lots of love to that very special lady!!

xx us!

Bedtime fun ; )

Painting with the "snow crayons" Uncle Stephen and Stacy sent!  Very Cool!!  Thanks much!!

I just found these pics as I was getting ready to post.  Kellan worked to build this (with some help) and then he found the camera and took these pictures by himself.  He's really growing up!!

(isn't that cute...little hand holding up the motorcycle for a great shot!?)  LOVE!!

Our very (NOT) fancy St. Paddy's day dinner...at least it tasted good!

Sean had eaten some very messy watermelon earlier...thus, no shirt ; )

Well, I owe a whole lot of photos, but they are not going in here yet...I will try to get them here today.  I did, however read this poem yesterday and had to post it here today - - Since I fell totally in love with it.  Kellan is really developing a love for reading and the boys love all things "make-believe."  I have always been a big reader and hope that these little men learn to love it too.  Since this blog is a "scrapbook" of sorts...this poem had to make it in here.

The Reading Mother

by

Strickland Gillilan

I had a mother who read to me

Sagas of pirates who scoured the sea,

Cutlasses clenched in their yellow teeth,

"Blackbirds" stowed in the hold beneath.

I had a Mother who read me lays

Of ancient and gallant and golden days;

Stories of Marmion and Ivanhoe,

Which every boy has a right to know.

I had a Mother who read me tales

Of Gelert the hound of the hills of Wales,

True to his trust till his tragic death,

Faithfulness blent with his final breath.

I had a Mother who read me the things

That wholesome life to the boy heart brings--

Stories that stir with an upward touch,

Oh, that each mother of boys were such!

You may have tangible wealth untold;

Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.

Richer than I you can never be--

I had a Mother who read to me.

Sigh...every time I read this I get "chills"...LOVE!!

Hello All,   Well, today is Gramma Baker's 83rd birthday...and a day off from school for us.  A water main broke at the high school, so we have a day to do with as we please.  We are going to head to see Great Gramma, but I thought that I would take a few moments to post some photos that we have been collecting for a while.  Here goes:

Sean is just handsome...so I had to post this.  Gramma Denno said that she dozed on the couch yesterday while Sean was playing quietly.  She woke up to discover that he had emptied all of the dish towels out of the drawer.  She told him that he shouldn't have done that...to which he replied: "Well Gramma, you better not fall asleep again."  That is a CHEEKY RASCAL right there cousin Eve!!

Kellan and Sean love all the projects Auntie Jennifer and crew.  They are a big hit around here, and Momma loves that they give her some quiet play time!!

Cute boy!

Of all our books, Grandad, the boys love looking at the photo album that you put together.  It stays right by their bed!

This is how I found Sean sleeping a few nights ago...does that look comfortable to anyone??!  Crazy kid!!

Over the weekend, I was putting Sean to bed and he said (out of the blue, we had not been looking at pics or anything), "I love Granddad."  Then Kellan started to laugh and said "Granddad is so funny!"  Then they both started cracking up, saying "OOOh, me foot/head."  You've made a big impression, and a couple of kids here are missing you Granddad Barry!!  Sending lots of love...xx Kellan and Sean

Today is a tough one.  Last night, we cuddled in the boy's room and Kellan asked for as many stories as I could think of about Carl. It surprised me that I was able to laugh at some of the silly moments - in spite of myself.  Kellan is so hungry for any stories of his daddy - I can hardly keep up with him and welcome any tales that can be passed along...

Someday, I will explain to the boys the significance of today, but I don't feel that they are ready yet.  In the meantime, we will gather our memories and build new ones through our family and Carl's friends.

We remember Carl everyday...recalling the heartbreaking loss today.
With love,
Katie, Kellan and Sean

This is how we play around here...Sean is the reindeer and Kellan is Santa...they took turns : )

Kellan and Sean each opened one gift tonight...Kellan loves his hat and light Em and Jay!!  Thanks so much!!

Shhh...don't tell, but this kids is going to end up with A LOT of cars for Christmas... ; )

You know, I was NOT going to go overboard on gifts!  By the time Gramma brought over her gifts and Santa showed up...this is quite a spread!!  How does that happen?! The boys will be excited in the AM!

Our gifts from Ireland and the Bishops are tucked in too!  Kellan took the packing paper off (he could not bear it!!), but we waited to open the boxes!!
P.S.  Our new rug is SO COZY!!  The boys spend all their time on the floor now : )  Happy Birthday/Christmas to me!!

I rarely open the shades in my bedroom, but it is a nice sunny day out so I thought "Why not?"  What a nice feeling to let the sunshine in on a day when my spirits have been down.  Well, Kellan looked "out" the window and said "SNOW!!" - there was no snow outside...on the ground or falling?!  He ran to get Sean, pushed Sean to the window and said "SNOW!!"  Sean said "no."  Kellan said..."IN THE HOUSE!! IT'S SNOW!!"  Dust my friends...DUST!!  Then he said..."Let's try to catch it on our tongues!!"  Oh my...Momma needs to clean this house!!

: ) ERRR!  XX Katie

Gramma took this picture of Seanie.  This is how he likes to watch Calliou...

A couple of cute comments tonight made me smile, so I wanted to post them.

1.) Every night I read with Kellan and tell him how brilliant he is when he reads to me (he really is a smart cookie!!!).  Well, he was home from school today because of a sick tummy.  Tonight, when we were reading he said, "Are you being nice to me because I'm sick?"  I'M ALWAYS NICE...little stinker!! : )

2.)  When I was putting Sean to bed tonight he said, "I like you."  I said, "I like you too, Seanie."  To which he replied..."Actually, I like Kellan."  He did follow that with, "Actually, I like you." BUT...the damage was done : )   Little STINKER!!

Cute (SLEEPING) boys!
g'night

- that is a pinecone on the floor...not a mouse : )
